In practice, this new mechanic works pretty well. The defender must then use the Wii remote's pointer to quickly point and click on each of the balls in the hopes of defending the net successfully. By charging up a power shot without interruption as and harnessing a Madden-esque power meter, players are now able to unleash a huge special attack that will release anywhere from 3 to 6 balls on the opposing team's keeper. Aside from a small and viscerally-pleasing waggle for the main tackle move, the game's only real reliance on the Wii remote's functions is a rather modest IR-based mini-game that is tied to the most prominent new gameplay element: Mega strikes. Unlike most Wii games, Charged uses almost no marquee motion control elements. The game's pace is much faster, the control tighter, the graphics are sharper, and the multiplayer is more expansive and flexible. In that regard, Mario Strikers Charged is hardly a surprise: though hardly flawless, the title is fun to play and the multiplayer is a blast.Ĭharged is a suitable follow-up to the original Gamecube release that improves on the original in a number of ways. Whether the game be tennis, golf, basketball, Mario and the gang have always hosted some fun games that are strong on multiplayer appeal even if they are a little weak in other areas. The Mario sports franchises have always been crowd-pleasers.
