First you need to convert your footage to an edit friendly codec like DNxHD or Apple ProRes. GoPro records in HEVC codec which is compressed and not suitable for editing. I have tried changing the video compression through my GoPro to HEVC instead oh H.264 + HEVC and that still doesn’t make a difference. I can play them just fine through Windows Media Player.
‘When recording with my GoPro 7, I have recorded in 1440 and 4k and every time I import the videos into Hitfilm, they only come up as audio files. Hitfilm Express GoPro 7 Black Video is Only Audio It displays a workaround to solve the problem.
